Having problems deciding on a hairstyle? Choosing the right hairstyle for your dream wedding day isn't rocket science, so why is it difficult? You want to look like you like a princess, but you need a little bit of help and here we've outlined all you need to know for that dream bridal hairstyle.

Look for hairstyle ideas The easiest way is to start collecting pictures from magazines and nowadays you can find some great hair style resources on the Internet. And be realistic - is the length, thickness etc of your hair really suitable for the style you have your heart set on? Bring along lots of pictures to your hairstylist and ask here for advice on at least 3 different styles and then let her try each one out.

Hair up or Hair Down? Try to select a hairstyle that suits your face shape - for example round faces tend to suit high "updo's" and sleek long styles while those with long faces suit hairstyles that have more width and volume. Would you be comfortable with all of your hair swept away from your face? You need to consider having some hair both up and down, or just leaving some wispy bits around your face to soften the look. If you have an off-the-shoulder or low cut dress will you feel comfortable with some flesh exposed?

Straight or Curly Once you have made a decision to wear you hair up or down, your possibilities are endless. Curls are romantic and soft, as are twists, pleats, plaits and variations to the bun. Or maybe you prefer a more contemporary twists and spikes. Try to reflect your own personality in your bridal hairdo, but don't be a fashion victim.

Tiara's and Veils These need to compliment your bridal hairstyle but not hide it. If you have chosen a large floor-length veil, your hairstyle needs to be strong enough to hold its shape until you take the veil off. Some veils look a lot better sat at the rear of your head under a bun or a mass of curls. As a general rule, the hair shouldn't be worn longer than the veil.

Jewels, beads and flowers These are very popular as they add some sparkle and colour and can match in with your colour scheme and jewellery. Pins and hairgrips with sparkling gems create a stunning effect, whilst small flowers can be scattered amongst the curls or wired to a hidden comb to flatter a French pleat.

A trial run Always have a hairstyle trial well in advance of your wedding. Your hair may need to grow longer for your desired style, so you can always have another trial nearer to your wedding day.

Your wedding hair checklist 1. Have a trial run with your hairstylist as soon as your wedding date is finalised. And if possible, take along a small selection of dress photos, and any hair accessories you plan to wear.

2. Find out if your hair needs to be grown longer, and improve your hair condition with quality conditioning treatments, and maybe even change the colour.

3. Never shampoo your hair or use conditioning treatments on your wedding day.

4. Just take it easy and relax.

Some brides this summer, are foregoing tiaras, letting their tresses down and pinning flowers up in their hair. For every bride there is a matching flower in taste, style and ambiance. Flowers can be used with a veil or can stand on their own for a beautiful look. The hottest flowers and hairstyles will be everything from sweet to sultry. With smaller flowers, a couple or a few will do. It depends on what the bride wants: if you want one that takes the cake, or a few here and there. LILY The lily, especially the oriental lily, is a timeless flower frequently associated with weddings. GERBERA DAISY Distinquished by their large, beautiful blooms and wide assortment of vibrant colors, gerbera daisies have become a favorite flower choice. The gerbera daisy is a symbol of beauty and innocence and an expression of cheerfull sentiments. For a less formal approach, gerbera daisies are perfect for the bride with long locks. Pull a few pieces back and pin them with a gerbera daisy. Or sport a very simple french twist with the daisy set in the crease.

STEPHANOTIS The Stephanotis flower has always been a popular wedding flower, symbolizing happiness in marriage, good luck and bonds of affection. Stephanotis florets enhance an up-do of curls and must be pinned carefully because of their flimsy stems. Discuss with your florist how many stephanotis you will need depending on the style and thickness of your hair. A bride with short hair may use five to six stephanotis in a clump, pinned behind her ear. For an up-do, consider a french twist with individual stephanotis in a straight line up the crease. Or leave the hair down, randomly pinning them in the curls. These small white florets are available year round and have a soft scent.

ROSE Charming roses are a signature flower for weddings. There is no flower that has been revered and celebrated as much as the rose. As a source of inspiration to people throughout history, roses are the definitive symbol for love and appreciation. Coming in an array of colors, and available in larger and smaller blooms, roses can be beautifully placed in barrel rolls turned forward. Roses are always elegant, classic and romantic.

GARDENIA Somewhat similar in appearance to the garden rose but more costly and delicate, gardenias are a classic addition to any hairstyle. Symbolizing joy, refinement and beauty. These fragrant flowers create a more sophisticated look than the traditional headpiece. If you have one gardenia in your hair and your hair is pulled back, that can be more dramatic looking than a tiara. Because of this bloom's sensitivity, a style off the face with the gardenia pinned in back would be best to avoid contact with the petals as they are fragile and may bruise easily.

ORCHID With an exotic appearance, orchids have come to represent rare and delicate beauty. Those seeking to make a lasting impression with a unique flower have found the orchid to be a perfect choice. You could use one or a few of these flowers in your hair, depending on the style. One suggestion is overlaying three orchids on top of each other and pinning them toward the top or bottom of the hair on either side. Offsetting is the key. These flowers appear best when clumped together rather than scattered randomly. The three most common orchid types, each durable enough to stay in full bloom for the big day, are cymbidium, dendrobium and phalaenopsis. Cymbidium orchids are gorgeous for a more elegant look. Orchids are usually available year round and come in a variety of colors. The "hot" flower for the summer bride, is a lime green orchid.

Each bridesmaid should wear a simpler form of hair accessory such as one or two of the flowers that have been used in the bride's hair. These can be used with a headband or pinned into the side or back of the style. Whatever flower you decide to use, make sure you discuss it with your stylist before your hair appointment. For healthy, rich-colored petals, pick up your blooms the morning of the wedding and take them with you to the salon. It is recommended that the flowers be left in the refrigerator overnight if they're picked up a day early.

The big day is fast approaching, and the energy of the moment sweeps you up. But does it carry your hair along too? Use the following checklist to ensure your wedding day hair is everything you dream it will be:

1. Which stylist? Make bookings for consultations with more than one stylist well in advance and decide on the one you feel most comfortable with. You should be able to express your likes and dislikes without feeling awkward.

2. Long hair, shoulder length, or short hair? It is important to consult with your stylist well in advance and make a decision. Long hair obviously gives the stylist much freedom for creativity but a skilled stylist can also work well with medium and short styles. Be sure to choose a length that fits with your personality and style.

3. Have your hair compliment your wedding dress. This can be done by both style and accessories. Smooth, straight hair and pinned up curls are often paired up with smooth satin gowns, whereas a tulle dress often goes well with soft curls.

4. Take into consideration your silhouette. If it's along horizontal lines such as with a wide dress, you'll want to stick with that look for your hair as well. The same goes for a vertical profile.

5. You'll be spending a lot of time at the salon picking out the perfect hairstyle, so it's best to be prepared. Be sure to wash your hair the night before your consultation, and try to have some pictures of styles you'd like to try out.

6. Take a picture of your wedding dress along to your stylist. This will greatly help the process along. Also take your veil with you, and let the stylist know what kind of wedding you are having: formal, informal, evening, daytime. Alternatively, consult with your stylist before deciding on your headpiece.

7. If you are interested in a new cut or color to your hair, don't wait until right before your wedding. Make the changes during the initial consultation with the stylist, so that you don't have any unpleasant surprises down the road.

8. After you have decided on your style, make sure you walk around with it. Your wedding day will be a long one and you certainly don't want an uncomfortable hair do causing irritation!

9. Your veil length will have some influence on your choice of hairstyle. Normally, the veil is longer than the hair. It is often secured in back swept hair (for up dos) and it's important to make sure the style can hold the veil in place.

10. What accessories are you going to wear? You will already (hopefully!) have your headpiece picked out. Flowers, pins, and beads can be used to add an extra sparkle to your hair, and you can and should coordinate them with the rest of your jewelry.

It may sound like choosing a bridal hair style is a strenuous activity, but the care and preparation is simply to make sure your wedding day is the best it can be.
